DEPARTMENT OF INDIAN MUSIC

THE HISTORY:

·         May 19^th 1932 – Inception of the Music Department

·         August 1932 – One year Diploma in Music was instituted

·         1937 – Two year Diploma in Music was commenced

·         1940 – Commencement of M.Litt Degree

·         1976 – M.A Degree in Indian Music was started

·         1982 – B.A Indian Music course was started

·         1986 – Introduction of M.Phil in Indian Music

·         1987 – Introduction of Indian Music in the correspondence stream and Open University stream

·         2000 – M.Music was introduced in the Distance Mode

·         2003 – Introduction of Three Months Certificate programme in Understanding Music and Dance Music (Bharatanatyam)

·         2004 – M.A Degree course in Bharatanatyam was instituted

·         2004 – Six months certificate courses were commenced under UICIC namely Karnatic Music, Hindustani Music, Western Music and Harikatha and Bhajana

·         2005 – M.A Bharatanatyam Private study was introduced

·         2005 – M.A Natya was instituted in M.G.R Janaki College of Arts and Science

·         2006 – M.A Rhythmology

·         2006 – M.A.Folk Music

·         2009 – B.Musiic introduced in Tamil Isai Kalluri

·         2009 - Three months certificate course commenced under UICIC on Voice Care and Conservation with Sri Ramachandra Medical University

·         2011 – M.Music introduced in Tamil Isai Kalluri

·         2011 - M.A Rhythmology Private Study was introduced

·         2012 – B.A. Muttamizh introduced in IDE and Affiliated Colleges
